Breaking Free

Designed in partnership with Herschel Walker, Breaking Free is an integrated therapy program that focuses on adults who face multiple mental health disorders or a combination of mental illness and drug or alcohol dependency, also known as co-occurring disorders. Patients receive motivational enhancement therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and 12-step facilitation therapy. The program allows patients to recognize and manage the issues related to their mental illness and chemical dependency problems.
Former Dallas Cowboy and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker authored the book “Breaking Free” in which he discusses his battle with a severe mental health crisis. Mr. Walker is an advocate for individuals seeking help. He is a spokesperson for Ascend Health and the Breaking Free Program.

Youth Program
Programs for children and adolescents who are struggling emotionally, behaviorally or academically. Our programs help children and adolescents develop boundaries, learn appropriate expression of emotions, increase self esteem, manage their anger and develop acceptable social skills.
For young patients in crisis, particularly those needing immediate stabilization and intervention, we offer a safe, secure and comforting environment supported by experienced and caring staff. Using evidence-based programs, young patients receive intensive evaluation and treatment during their stay. We also serve children and adolescents in day hospital, or outpatient, programs at NorthPointe Family Center.
To allow young patients to continue their education without interruption, we have partnered with Legends Academy, a certified Texas Charter School. Students attend school at Legends Academy and receive full academic credits as well as therapeutic groups. For more information on Legends Academy, please visit
